New Car Update

The “New Car Sales Manager” called on Monday and said he would relent on the $350 that separated us. However, when we arrived at the dealership today there was some confusion about this, and after some back-and-forth, there was apparently some misunderstanding on the Sales Manager’s part. Apparently, he didn’t realize the extent of the damage on the back bumper and how much it would cost the dealership to fix it. After mulling it over a few more minutes, Emily and I were the the ones that relented and agreed to purchase the car anyway, paying out-of-pocket to fix the bumper. In the end, we determined that – even with the cost of fixing the bumper – we still received a great deal. Emily priced some 2009 models on Monday at another dealership, and the price difference was substantial. Plus, we qualified for 0% financing on the vehicle we purchased, and that’s hard to beat. Emily mentioned something the other night that I think sums up the car buying experience. You know you’re going to get taken. It’s just a matter of how much are you going to get taken for. And with this purchase, we think that we did pretty good.

So, as of today, we are the proud owners of a 2008 Toyota Sienna LE.

Yeah, we bought a minivan. What are you going to do about it?
